BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — Ranchers are joining together in Belle Fourche on Thursday to help one of their own who lost their home.
Proceeds from a rollover auction at the Belle Fourche Livestock Market are going to James Halverson, who is the Executive Director of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association.
Halverson lost his home in a wildfire this month.
About $6,000 dollars was raised for the Halverson family in the auction.
The event was an effort to show that when a natural disaster hits, or when someone’s in need, ranchers step up for their community.
“Neighbors just come together and want to help out they best they can and share, share to help make em’ out, and in the case of the Halverson’s here, they’ve done so much for the community that we’re just hoping that we can help them out a little bit today,” said Vaugh Meyer, the Vice President of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association.
Meyer says that future events, such as a chili feed, are in the works to raise more money for the Halverson’s.
