BOX ELDER, S.D. — Several families and first responders made their way out to Box Elder on Saturday for the first Hop with a Cop event.
The event for young children included the Easter bunny, who received a special escort. It was originally slated to take place last year, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.
18 volunteers helped stuff a total of five-thousand eggs, while kids and first responders spent time together.
“Easter’s always a fun time because the kids get to get involved and get treats and prizes and then it brings the families in too, so and then of course there’s going to be law enforcement and fire here to interact with and it’s just having fun between law enforcement and the families,” said Tonya Sabin, event organizer.
Even though the event was supposed to take place last year, organizers say that it was just good for the kids to be outside on a nice day.
“We’re super excited to get this going today, our kids have all been in lock down for months and months at a time. We’re excited that we’ve got the great weather today, we’ve got a ton a of donations, some great prizes to give out, our community has really come out to put this together for us and we’re happy to give back,” said Raven Kaufman with the Box Elder Police Department.
Kids were also able to load up on sweet snacks and prizes during the event.
