RAPID CITY, S.D. — Laurie Giacoletto has been a PA in Urgent Care for the past 26 years. When the COVID pandemic hit, she says her job has gotten stressful at times but at end goal of helping people was always keeping her energized.
Laurie remembers the day she was motivated to put her thoughts on paper.
Laurie Giacoletto, author, says, “I think it was subconscious because one day I remember being stressed at work and I said, that’s it, Christmas is cancelled because of COVID I’m done, you know, it’s done. 2 days later at 3 in the morning, I wake up with this book in my head and I thought I gotta get this out, oh my gosh, how do I do this.”
With never writing anything besides on a prescription pad, Laurie called her friend who’s an author and got the ball rolling. In under a month, the book was published.
Titled: ‘Claus Cancels Christmas – A COVID Story,’ the book is about a little boy named Tommy who is not looking forward to the holiday but in the end is determined to save Christmas.
Giacoletto says, “Just writing, you know, how we have this horrible thing that is going on and you can’t cancel Christmas.”
The book hopes to uplift readers to always believe in the magic of Christmas.
“Just because what you are used to doing during Christmas time doesn’t mean that Christmas is totally canceled; you know there is other reasons for Christmas and we have to adapt and its not going to be forever – but at they moment probably to kids it does feel like forever, ” adds Giacoletto.

Laurie will also be at a book signing this Saturday at Louie’s Cafe in Sturgis 2-4pm for books purchased that day.
