RAPID CITY, S.D. — Main Street Square opened the doors to their ice rink Saturday, and kids and adults gathered to enjoy the afternoon on skates.
Organizers hope they’ll see a record-setting year, and look forward to all of the business the rink and Main Street Square will bring to local restaurants and shops.
The rink is open now until the end of February, so it’s a spirited way to celebrate the holidays and winter.
Dustin BanHunnik, Events Coordinator and Ice Rink Manager, talked about how excited he was for the season.
“I think ice skating is really going to encapsulate getting into the winter season,” he says. “We’ve had snow once, we had snow only a couple of times last year, but ice skating is going to be around all winter.”
Main Street Square’s rink will hold a Christmas Gift Exchange on December 18. Skaters can bring in a gift to donate to Toys for Tots in exchange for free skating.
The rink at Main Street Square wasn’t the only one to open on Saturday. Outlaw Square in Deadwood also opened its rink.
They use a material called “Glice” instead of ice, which doesn’t have to be frozen.
