RAPID CITY, S.D. — What started as a way to make and acquire masks for health care workers has turned into a full-fledged community effort at Western Dakota Tech.
“Masks for Rapid City” started in March and has produced 50,000 masks for the community, free of charge.
The project has contributed 14,000 masks for students in the Rapid City Area Schools. The remaining masks in the “Kids kits” will be completed by volunteers at RCAS. The masks will help to ensure that the kids have an extra barrier for safety.
“To ensure a little bit more safety and ensure that they all have a mask to wear everyday, even if they forget it,” said Stephanie Mayfield, the Coordinator of the Masks for Rapid City Project. “You know, they’re going through so much.”
The last of Western Dakota Tech’s mask-making kits and masks are available at the front entrance on a first-come, first served basis.
