RAPID CITY, S.D. — A group from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation came up with the idea for a nonprofit coffee shop that would serve the community and be a place for OneHeart guests to learn job skills and produce revenue.
Nikki Lucero, Executive Director Coordinator for OneHeart, says, “The main goal really is to have some of our guests working here, that way they can get job skills, on the job training, and just general knowledge of feeling more comfortable in a work setting to help them transition out of poverty.”
Homebrew will offer sweet treats from Fork Real Café and coffee provided by Pure Bean Coffeehouse.
Visitors can warm up with coffee also warm their heart helping to support the homeless population work toward a better life.
Lucero says that the campus has been a positive place for the guests who desire to thrive, saying, “Everything on this campus has meant everything to them, they are just so appreciative of everything that we have done for them and they are really thriving so far so I think that they will do very well.”
The space is also set up for small group meetings. Homebrew is set to open the end of March.
The building is at 201 Kansas City Street, across from the Public Safety Building, and will be open from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The building also houses a salon and an on-site childcare center run by the YMCA for OneHeart’s youngest guests.
