RAPID CITY, S.D. — The new Summit Arena opened hosted its first official event Saturday evening. The All-State Choir and Orchestra concert drew musicians, singers, and excited attendees from all across South Dakota.
In fact, nearly a thousand kids performed in the event, with about four thousand people in attendance for a total of about five thousand at the premiere event.
Tracy Heitsch, Dep. Facility Director at The Monument, talked about the meaning behind featuring South Dakota youth on opening night.
“To be able to have it centered on local kids who are our future, it’s so exciting to be able to host them in the facility,” she says.
Staff at The Monument say the support of their employees, as well as the community and government officials, are what brought the vision for the new Summit Arena from a dream to a destination.
The Monument staff say the night went smoothly and they look forward to the future there.
“We are learning lots of things, we have lots of things we can improve on, but we are so excited to welcome the community and thousands and thousands of people for the next 45 years into this building,” Heitsch adds.
The next event at Summit is For King and Country on November 11, followed by the state volleyball tournament from the 18 through the 20, and then the Zac Brown Band Concert on the 21.
