Noem files appeal in abortion consultation case

PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has filed an appeal in Planned Parenthood v. Noem, after a District Court refused to dissolve the injunction requiring pregnant women to receive a consultation before deciding to have an abortion.

“I look forward to the day when all life – born and unborn – is protected by law, and this litigation will be helpful in achieving that ultimate goal,” Gov. Noem says.

Following the court’s decision in August, Noem sought the help of former Trump attorney and Supreme Court advocate, Jay Sekulow. Sekulow, who serves as chief counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, joined the state’s legal team in September.

Noem’s litigation would require that all women who are considering having an abortion receive counseling from a pregnancy center to have “all the facts regarding their unborn child, the potential risks of an abortion procedure, and to ensure that the mother is not being coerced into an abortion.”
