SPEARFISH, S.D. — With the imminent threat of a local business closing for good, Spearfish residents are saying “not on their watch”.
After 44-years of showing first-run movies, the Northern Hills Cinema was set to close indefinitely in August. But with an increase in attendance and Hollywood releasing new movies, the theater has remained open.
Residents are flocking to show support to this pillar of their community, hoping to keep it open.
A group of movie goers outside of the theater this weekend said,
“It’s nice to get out and smell the popcorn, eat the popcorn and well support our local theater. You know we go to lots of movies and it would be really tragic not to have one here.”
The Northern Hills Cinema is now open Fridays through Sundays on a week-by-week basis.
