RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City officials joined Post 22 coaches and officials with Black Hills Sports and Black Hills Surgical Hospital to cut the ribbon on the new Black Hills Surgical Hospital Ballpark Tuesday afternoon.
Mayor Steve Allender shared remarks on the importance of the new facility to the community, Post 22 coach Kelvin Torve and Dr. Lew Papendick talked about the impact of baseball in the community and Black Hills Sports officials commented on the efforts of many to bring the new facility to reality.
Mayor Allender was among those tossing ceremonial first pitches. Council members Ritchie Nordstrom and Darla Drew, City engineer Rod Johnson and Parks Director Jeff Biegler and staff also attended the ceremonies.
After the ribbon cutting, remarks, and festivities, it was time for rivals Post 22 and Post 320 to square off on the field.
