Pactola Marina is currently filled with water for fun activities and its rentals are filling up as the summer grows closer.
Despite surrounding areas having to deal with a drought, Angie Fisher, owner and operator of the Pactola Marina and store, says that the marina is actually 99.6% full.
“We get a lot of the rain. You know, even if it doesn’t rain a lot, we get a lot of the runoff from the hills and so it fills up pretty quickly,” She explains. “It doesn’t take a lot of rain to fill it up. The amount of water coming into Pactola in the last week or two was higher than how quickly they were letting it out. That has now flip flopped a little bit. It’s coming in a bit slower and going out a little bit faster, but it’s still not moving too terribly much for us, which is fantastic.”
Back in 2008, Pactola Marina saw the most worrisome drought for them because of how low the Marina became.
“You know, for us, if we have a drought, we have to move our docks away from where they’re at currently, which is a normal spot for us,” Fisher says. “It’s easy to get to easy access for customers. If we have to move them out, it’s a bigger parking lot, but it’s harder to get to those docks. And our biggest concern when there is a drought is, of course, the shorelines and the sandbars that are in there, and those are damaging to propellers and potentially the whole motor. We’re always afraid of that drought. We will take a flood any day over a drought.”
Pactola Marina offers a number of activities to enjoy like boat rentals; kayak, canoe and stand-up paddle board rentals; fishing; campgrounds; hiking and even a food menu.
Fisher says, “We’re open and ready to go for business. I expect a great summer. July’s already filling up for rentals for us. But as long as the weather stays nice, we are ready to go.”
