Parks and Rec. Dept. shows appreciation for National Pollinator Week

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Did you know this is National Pollinator Week?

The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is doing its part to create awareness and show appreciation. They set up a booth at the Black Hills Farmer’s Market to share information about our buzzing friends.

Pamphlets, giveaways, even an observation hive to show how bees work and move around.

Members of the Parks and Rec. are reiterating the importance of pollinators and why it’s important to be aware of who, or what, may be in your garden this summer.

“Honey bees are very effective pollinator, they’re very efficient at what they do and so, we really encourage bee keeping but we also want to support native bees and other pollinators, so it’s just one piece of a bigger picture,” said Parks and Recreation employee, Melissa Petersen.

The city’s Standing Committee on Sustainability also helped out at the booth to raise awareness.
