RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Pennington County Republican Women holding a debate on Home Rule Thursday at the Alex Johnson.
Those in favor and against Home Rule attended, all in hopes of bringing the issue in full scope to the public.
Speaking for the opposition, Jason Green represented the Home Rule Charter Committee that presented its case to the City Council last month.
Jordan Mason, a former Rapid City councilman, spoke against Home Rule.
The goal of the debate was to inform the public about both sides of the issue with the two speakers.
“This is not something that is clearly ideological, it’s not something that your average citizen knows about. In South Dakota, we have few cities that are Home Rule, so it’s important for us just be educated on the issue in order for us to make up our own minds and opinions about the topic,” said Sara Frankenstein, President of the Pennington County Republican Women.
The Pennington County Republican Women hold events like the debate every Thursday at the Alex Johnson.
