Functional Medicine uses an approach to a patients symptoms that hopes to uncover the root causes to support the body’s natural ability to heal.
Cathy Wilson, CRNA, CNP at Well Beyond Personalized Medicine, says, “It’s different from conventional because we ask different questions to patients, we are interested in the root cause of why you have an illness. We teach patients what you can do with your lifestyle, with your sleep with your nutrition, with your stress management and then that is how we come up with a plan for them.”
This specialized form of health care optimizing heath from the patients own body, factoring in genetics and health history, and may involve testing lab, or using hormone therapy or food sensitivity testing to find the bottom line of heath issues.
Melissa Aberle, CNP at Well Beyond Personalized Medicine, says, “We know that inflammation is the root cause of cancers and heart disease and autoimmune disorder, so if you can eliminate a lot of those highly inflammatory foods that you own body is sensitive to. They say in about 14 days, 80-90% of patients will notice a great improvement in their health.”
They are helping patients understand the importance of daily choices and how to change habit whole person — mind and body and get on track for feeling their best.
Aberle says, “If you look at 70-90% of chronic illness is attributable to lifestyle, if you are not taking care of that aspect, how can you truly get better.”
They take into account a patient’s entire system and how it all works together, they are able to come up with a common denominator for improved wellness.
“But if we cab give them hope and some healing, it goes a long way. It can change their whole life,” says Aberle.
They also have a nutritionist and health coach on hand to help with additional patient needs.
Their services also include IV vitamin infusion therapy, infrared sauna and diabetes prevention.
Wilson says, “We have a tendency to take that into account, your entire system and look for the root cause of what is the common denominator here, do you have reactivated infection, do you have an over abundance of inflammation and then we can come up with a plan of — rather than sending you off — we will help your body heal itself.”
