RAPID CITY, S.D. – After 44 years in the Barnett Arena, Rodeo Rapid City is ready to move next door into the brand new Summit Arena.
Preparations for this annual event have been underway for several months.
But on Friday, Jan. 28, fans will finally have the opportunity to check out this year’s rodeo action.
Crews are busy putting the finishing touches on the rodeo arena inside the Summit.
This year, around 750 contestants will compete for their share of over $200,000 in prize money.
Rodeo Rapid City will feature both current and former world champions, along with the top rodeo personnel and contract acts.
Last December in Las Vegas, Rodeo Rapid City was named the “PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year” for the second year in a row.
“That’s the highest honor you can win and for us to do it one time would have been great,” said Steve Sutton. “But back-to-back and we were back-to-back in like 02 and 03 also. But we’ve been in the top five 20 times or plus. We have the same six people on every committee. We’re a small group. It’s family. We have great people behind us. The award is won because of hard work and it’s because everybody works hard.”
