WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump pardoned a lucky bird and his friend just before Thanksgiving, sparing “Corn” the turkey and his friend, “Cob,” from Thanksgiving dinner. Corn was officially declared the National Thanksgiving turkey, but both birds will retire to Iowa State University following the ceremony.
The President delivered remarks at the annual White House Turkey Pardon ceremony in the Rose Garden. He was joined by First Lady Melania, his daughter Ivanka, son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and their three children for the event.
President Trump briefly spoke about the history of the White House tradition, and later about coronavirus; expressing gratitude for healthcare workers and the forthcoming vaccines. He also reiterated his stance that the pandemic will end soon.
“During this Thanksgiving, we extend gratitude to the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and scientists who waged battle against the China virus, and we give thanks for the vaccines and therapies that will end the pandemic. It’s such a tremendous feeling to know they are coming and will be probably starting next week or shortly there after,” said Trump.
