If you are downtown in Main Street Square, Que Pasa Cantina is one restaurant that you will want to check out.
Jade Johnson, Manager of Que Pasa Cantina, says, “We are in the historic main street shops of downtown, so it’s a really great location. Obviously, since they’ve done Main Street Square, it’s really revitalized the downtown area. Also very big restaurant that we have here and really fun décor and margaritas and tequila. We like everybody to come here and have a really great time. We are one of the largest restaurants in downtown Rapid. We’re really unique that we do have a rooftop patio here. There’s only two of us and Rapid that have that. Of course, Alex Johnson has their Vertex bar and then we have our rooftop patio here. So for the first time in two years, the rooftop is open. We have a large indoor dining area, a big bar space. We have a private room off here. We call it our main street room. And it’s actually a historic part of downtown that it was one of the first saloons here in downtown Rapid. And then, of course, we have our outdoor patio, which has been voted one of the best patios in Rapid City.”
Johnson describes Que Pasa Cantina’s menu. “We really consider ourselves a modern Mexican kitchen. We have Mexican food that has a newer, unique twist on it. So most of our product is made here in-house. We have a lot of really good smoked meats. We do a carnitas and also a brisket. So our carnitas is in-house, smoked, with a house made seasoning with some oranges and cola that give it that sweetness based off that smokiness as well. And then we can shred it for the items that’s in. And our brisket as well as in house smoked for 6 to 8 hours.”
In addition to great food, Que Pasa Cantina offers a wide variety of tequila and margarita choices. Johnson explains, “We’re pretty proud of our tequila selection here. We do have the largest tequila selection in Rapid City. I always try to have something new for the customers. Every three, four months, a new tequila that you might not have seen or tried before. So we feature Margarita of the Month every single month here at Que Pasa. They’re constantly changing and they’re always unique because one of ours that has been always a bestseller is called The Joy of Summer. So it’s a really nice, light, refreshing margarita.”
The Joy of Summer margarita begins with fresh strawberries and a hint of cucumber that gives it that refreshing taste. They also add agave nectar which breaks up the fruit and releases the flavors. The margarita features a silver tequila. Because this drink is on the sweet side, the edge of the glass is rimmed with sugar instead of salt.
Que Pasa Cantina offers Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm. Be sure to stop in and check out the food and drinks.
