RAPID CITY, S.D. — While some folks choose to have their own firework shows at home, it’s important to know where you are actually allowed to set them off.
“Basically prohibited within the city limits, including the one mile radius. Novelty fireworks are allowed. I think the messaging both from our Fire Department, from the Police Department, is if you’re in an area where fireworks are allowed, that you do it safely,” said Darrell Shoemaker, Communications Coordinator, City of Rapid City. “Making sure, even with the novelty fireworks, making sure that you have a bucket of water, you’ve got the hose handy. All of those sorts of precautions.”
Rapid City will host its fireworks show on Sunday, July 4 at about 9:30 p.m. at the Executive Golf Course. The rain-out make-up day would be on Monday , July 5.
There will also be fireworks at other venues, including Black Hills Speedway and the Black Hills Surgical Hospital Ballpark.
By the way, since July 4 is a Sunday, the actual federal holiday is Monday, July 5 – so that means no mail, bank, or city offices will be open.
