Rapid City issues third most building permits during January through June period

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City just had its third-best first-half of the year for building permits.

The City’s Building Services Division issued 456 permits in June, with a total valuation of over $23 million, the highest total for June since 2017.

For the first half of this year, the City issued 2,393 building permits, the third-highest first-half total.

The valuation came close to $198-million – more than double the first-half of 2020.

The number of building permits issued from January to June for the last five years is as follows:

The City says the following were the to permits issued by the city last month:

Top permits issued last month by the City include: Monument Health’s second-floor alterations at the Rapid City hospital facility at 353 Fairmont Boulevard ($2.5 million); Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn for roofing, window and other alterations at 505 N. Fifth Street ($2.5 million); Presbyterian Retirement Village’s boiler replacement at 255 Texas Street ($997,000); a new single-family dwelling with garage at 3837 Elysian Court ($673,387); a single-family dwelling with garage at 555 Summerfield Drive ($555,349); and Orchard Meadows Rapid City LLC for four-plexes at 2827 Nuggets Drive, 2769 Nuggets Drive and 2843 Nuggets Drive ($440,000 each).
