RAPID CITY, S.D. — Independence Day is fast approaching and people are beginning to make plans for the holidays.
Part of those plans is figuring out where to watch fireworks.
Although cancelled at Mount Rushmore, the annual Rapid City fireworks show is still set for Sunday, July 4.
The display will begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Executive Golf Course – although the light show can be seen from multiple locations around town.
Though there are no plans to cancel the fireworks, weather and fire conditions will be monitored leading up to the show.
“A couple of years ago, our Fire Department made the decision. We actually postponed the conditions because we had a rain storm come through and wind storm come through. And so it was about an hour before the show that basically it had to be postponed. That’s the reason we have a rain-out date each year,” said Darrell Shoemaker, Rapid City Communications Coordinator.
The rain-out date this year will be the next day, July 5.
There will also be other fireworks displays in the community.
Black Hills Speedway will have a show following their races on Friday, July 2, and there will be a display at 10 p.m. following the Post 22 Firecracker Baseball Tournament.
