RAPID CITY, S.D. — Parking will be a little easier for those looking to enjoy the numerous activities taking place in Rapid City’s downtown over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
City officials announced Thursday that parking will be free downtown from Thanksgiving Day through Saturday, Nov. 27. Portions of downtown parking will be unavailable starting 4:30 p.m. Saturday along the Festival of Lights parade route. As always, downtown parking meters are free on Sundays.
“There are a number of reasons for the public to come downtown during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend,” said Mayor Steve Allender. “Providing free parking during the holiday weekend is a way to say thank you to our small businesses and to the public for helping to support our community throughout the year.”
In addition to the Festival of Lights Parade, Main Street Square will also host the Winter Market on Saturday. The 27th is also Small Business Saturday. Several downtown businesses are also hosting a Lakota Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, to support local indigenous businesses and artisans.
