Rapid City Rush and Monument Health team up to honor those impacted by cancer

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The 13th annual Rush Fights Cancer event brought community down to the ice arena Thursday night.

Community members painted names on the ice to honor those that have been impacted by cancer.

Over the years the event, which is a partnership between the Monument Health Foundation and the Rush, has raised some $300,000 for local agencies in the Black Hills.

It’s an opportunity for participants to also remember those who have died of the disease and remember them through the game of hockey.

“That being apart of the game, you know, it’s actually in the game in itself and you know, and just having people come down, having that opportunity, being in the stands watching the game, seeing the name out there it’s kind of just a symbolic thing that everyone can kind of remember and be apart of,” said Danny Battochio, goalie coach for the Rapid City Rush.

The game between the Rush and the Allen Americans is set to start on Saturday. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
