RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Solid Waste Division announced Thursday that submissions are being accepted in a naming contest for all of the city’s garbage trucks.
Students in the Rapid City Area Schools got first crack at naming the trucks.
Solid Waste hopes once each truck is uniquely named, they will be easier for customers to remember. The idea hatched from water cooler chat, when someone on staff mentioned something similar going on in Canada.
“We were joking around about it with some of the other staff in town and we thought, you know what why not? It’s fun, garbage isn’t always fun, so any opportunity I can find to make fun out of it I definitely try,” said Jancie Knight with the Solid Waste Division.
Submissions will be accepted through April 4th and can be sent to RCRecycles@rcgov.org or messaged to the Rapid City Solid Waste Division on Facebook.
The top 25 names will be chosen and voted on from there. Winners will be selected during Public Works Week, May 16 – 22.
