RAPID CITY, S.D. — It’s time to start gathering up those old cans of paint or household chemicals, a.k.a. hazardous waste.
Rapid City’s Solid Waste Division is again holding its popular Household Hazardous Waste Disposal event — an opportunity for residents to get rid of materials and chemicals that are sitting around the house.
The event also serves to protect the environment, by making sure these items don’t get dumped down the drain and end up in the water system.
You can bring those items to the Central States Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and you won’t even have to leave the car.
“The line’s going to start on the LaCrosse side of the Fairgrounds and then follow that loop where it turns into San Francisco and then you’ll enter the parking lot and you can follow the cones,” said Ria Harper, social media coordinator for Rapid City’s Solid Waste Division. “And we’re going to pop open your trunk or your back door. Our guys are going to come in and take all the stuff out of your car.”
You can find a list of acceptable items of the city’s website, or the Solid Waste Division Facebook page. The public is also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit Feeding South Dakota.
