RCAS votes against returning to in-person classes five days a week

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Area School Board has decided against returning to in-person classes five days a week. The vote came Monday, after Superintendent Dr. Lori Simon re-considered a previous five-day proposal.

In the end, Dr. Simon found that parents and students want to stay with the current plan.

“In relation to districts across the state, our numbers were much higher when you adjusted per our population, and so really they were necessary decisions – but we’re in a good place now and I think parents, students and teachers alike are just wanting to stay in the positive routine that we’re in right now,” said Dr. Simon.

Dr. Simon says that the option for in-person learning on Fridays may come back as soon as the fall.
