RAPID CITY, S.D. — Safeway’s annual Turkey Bucks Campaign proved to be a big success. The stores collected donations then used the money to supply turkey dinners for families who can’t afford their own.
Both Safeway’s in Rapid City worked on the campaign with Feeding South Dakota. Todays drive-thru meal giveaway took place at the Rapid Valley Methodist Church.
Shawn Burke, Development Associate for Feeding South Dakota, said, “Full meal…what’s included: turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. We’ve got somewhere between 70 and 100 some of those available for our distribution.”
Feeding South Dakota relies heavily on its volunteer workers to box up and distribute all of the food donations they receive through the Turkey Bucks Campaign.
Burke also said, “Between donations and all the people coming through as volunteers, its been a trying year for some…for many, and yet people are really helping out.”
Safeway’s Turkey Bucks is an annual campaign that’s an easy way to give back to those in need of food during the holidays.
