Second annual Chinook Days festival a great success

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The second annual Chinook Days festival has come to a fiery end…and it was a great success.

The festival ended Saturday with a mix of winter games, music, and a community bonfire at the lookout amphitheater. Brothers John and Patrick Williams coordinated the festival as an opportunity to celebrate a world record and highlight all Spearfish has to offer.

“We figured that a world record historical event was a good reason to throw a party and celebrate the community. So, we feel like it’s a great time of the year, even in the middle of the winter to get out, enjoy the community, enjoy the people and have a good time,” John said.

“Come out and enjoy Spearfish and enjoy this unique record that we have held for 78 years now, and hopefully continue to mostly likely hold for a long time into the future,” Patrick added.

To kick the party off, a flaming spear was thrown through a statue of a fish, under supervision of the local fire department. Most of the events of the week were well attended, as most were outdoors and allowed for social distancing.
