The gala event will feature a social hour, dinner, guest speakers, silent/live auction, and live music. The event will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
If unable to attend the event, the SCLDF asks that you consider either sponsoring a veteran in your stead or bidding on an item for the silent/live auction.
Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance. Business evening attire is recommended, but not required.
Founded in 2012, the SCLDF is steadfast in its three-fold mission of support: provide advocacy, assistance, and awareness for the struggles veterans face when they return from deployments.
Haley Derr with the Sergeant Colton Levi Derr Foundation, says, “It’s more about spreading the awareness, you know, getting people involved and helping with the cause and try gin to get the number from 20 plus suicides a day and the more people we can gather and spread the word – the easier it is to get help out there.”
Sergeant Colton Levi Derr suffered with PTSD following his combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sergeant Colton Levi Derr succumbed to suicide on April 28, 2012 following his Afghanistan mission.
Haley Derr, Colton’s brother, says, “Part of the reason we have the gala is – put out this message that there is hope to people. We know you don’t like to ask for help or it’s tough to ask for help but we want you to know that there are people out there that care and people that want to help. There’s communities, there’s businesses that are out there to support out.”
