RAPID CITY, S.D. — Community. It’s what Stuart Martin and his partner Jeff Jasper are looking to build in their 55+ manufactured home community, Shepherd’s Meadow.
Located southwest of Menards in Rapid City near the Shepherd Hills Subdivision, the $3.5 million neighborhood will give home-buyers options to buy into the 118 single-wide or double-wide manufactured homes that range from $99,000 to $200,000.
But, this isn’t just about business.
“If they want to go south for the winter, we want their neighbor to be able to have a key to be able to come in and watch over their house while they’re gone or vise versea,” said Stuart Martin, a Co-Owner of Shepherd’s Meadow said. “We want them to be able to have their phone numbers if they have a problem up here that they need to take care of. We do want it to be of that community feel.”
Martin says that lawn maintenance, snow removal, security and a community center will be available for residents.
Eight homes are currently constructed and ready for the grand opening set for Friday, February 19 from noon to 4 p.m., and you must be 55 or above to purchase a home. Stuart says that the rest of the homes could be completed by as early as 24-30 months from now.
The showing continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and runs through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The owners hope that those looking to retire or downsize from their current home will feel a sense of belonging on the lot.
“That community relationship. We’re trying to bring that back to a community within Rapid City. In a 55-plus community, you have a more mature audience, you have people that want to take care of things,” Stuart said.
Creating a community that embraces a community feel.
