Six local organizations receive mini-grant from Live Well Black Hills

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Six organizations across the Black Hills have received a Community Mini-Grant from Live Well Black Hills. The grants are made possible by the Healthy Hometown powered by Wellmark Community Award, which Live Well Black Hills has received three years in a row for community health improvement projects.

A committee reviewed over 30 applications proposing unique health improvement projects and chose the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative Development Disabilities Program, The Cave Collective, City of Sturgis, Meade County Senior Citizens Center Association, Minneluzahan Senior Citizens Center, and the Sturgis Unified PTSA to receive the grants.

Those six organizations will receive up to $2,000 for their proposed projects, which include the installation of a bike repair station, basketball court update and recreation equipment for youth, mental health programming, and gardening and physical activity opportunities for seniors and those with disabilities.

Live Well Black Hills launched the Community Mini-Grants in 2021 with the hopes of using the award money to provide organizations the opportunity to complete projects that promote community health, in the focus areas of “eat well,” “move more,” and/or “feel better,” for a wide range of Black Hills residents.
