South Dakota ranchers eligible for federal grazing loss assistance

WASHINGTON — South Dakota ranchers and livestock producers have the ability to apply for assistance through the federal Livestock Forage Disaster Program until the end of January.

The LFP gives financial assistance to eligible producers and growers who have suffered grazing losses due to drought or fire. More than $473 million has been paid to producers in 26 states for 2021.

62 counties in South Dakota have drought severity levels that qualify for LFP assistance. CLICK HERE for more information on the eligible counties and grazing crops.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture encourages those looking to apply to gather and submit records that document their 2021 losses, including information related to grazing leases, contract grower agreements, etc.
