SPEARFISH, S.D. — A partnership between the Spearfish Bike Skills Park Group, Black Hills Trails, and the City of Spearfish has resulted in the creation of a bike skills park, located in the Winterville area west of Spearfish Canyon Road.
The Spearfish Bike Skills Park will have a grand opening on Friday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m.
The park provides an opportunity to introduce basic mountain biking technical skills to bikers of all ages in a reduced-risk environment. Features include a balance board, T.H.A.D. rollover (found at many fence crossings on mountain bike trails), rock gardens, and several banked turns. Users of the park are reminded to always wear helmets and ride within their comfort level.
To access the parking lot at the bike park, go south on Highway 14A from Colorado Boulevard (heading into Spearfish Canyon), turn right onto Winterville Drive, right onto South Canyon Street, and processed through the half-open gate. The bike park is on the right-hand side of South Canyon Street, just before the hydroelectric plant.
To celebrate, the public is invited to a free bike-in movie on Friday, May 21 at 8 p.m., click here for details.
