RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Spearfish Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch has started it’s ninth season at the Spearfish Valley Produce.
The annual event has numerous rides and attractions that the whole family can enjoy.
Every year, Spearfish Valley Produce brings out the plow and devises a corn maze for kids and adults. They also offer a pumpkin patch and a number of other activities. The maze is designed differently each year. The way they do this is by flipping the sides the maze and patch were on the previous year.
“We have 10 acres of pumpkins this year,” said April Yenglin, Manager of the corn maze. “And then every year we crop rotate, so then the maze will be where the pumpkins are now, and then the maze will be on the other side. And so next year we will have 15 acres of pumpkins and the corn maze will be 10 acres. What the corn takes out of the ground when the pumpkins are all done, we plow them in and they re-supplement the ground with what’s needed for the corn to grow the next year.”
Other activities besides the pumpkin patch and the traditional corn maze are the zip line, hay jump, duck race, hay slide and corn box. All of the activities located at Spearfish Valley Produce are built so that adults can join in on the fun as well.
“Everything is adult-friendly as well, we built the zip line so that there is a side for adults to go down. There is the giant slide, everything is adult and kid-friendly. We want the parents to have a great time as well.”
Spearfish Valley Produce cleans all of the rides and attractions with a playground safe sanitizer throughout the day. As well as offering a haunted maze the weekend before Halloween as well as the weekend of Halloween.
