WASHINGTON — After being grounded for nearly two years, Midwest Honor Flight is taking off Saturday from Sioux Falls to bring 79 veterans to Washington to visit memorials to their service.
These trips are provided at no cost to veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
Missions are funded by public support and donations, and assisted by a volunteer network. It costs about $753 to sponsor each veteran; they are not required to pay anything out-of-pocket for the trip – including flights, food, and transportation.
On Saturday’s Mission, veterans will visit the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the WWII Memorial, among others.

Top priority is given to World War II veterans and terminally ill veterans from all wars.
Veterans from the following states/counties are eligible for a flight from Sioux Falls:
- South Dakota: all counties
- Iowa: Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Woodbury, Osceola, O’Brien, Cherokee, Ida, Dickson, and Clay
- Minnesota: Lincoln, Lyon, Redwood, Pipestone, Murray, Cottonwood, Rock, Nobles, and Jackson
Midwest Honor Flight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and 100% volunteer.
