SPEARFISH, S.D. — Still need to get your taxes done? The students at Black Hills State University can help you with that – for free!
BHSU is bringing back its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Clinic, which offers free tax help to community members and is staffed by students from the school’s advanced income tax course.
The clinic provides vital, real-world experience, with the course allowing students to become certified by the IRS by working as tax preparers.
While the service is free to anyone, BHSU would like to keep incomes to $57,000 or less.
“If your income level is below that $57,000, in a lot of cases, it’s very safe bet that we will be able to prepare the return without any issues in your situation. As your income level rises above that $57,000, you as the taxpayer may be bringing in forms that we are not allowed to do,” said Chris Wardell, an Accounting Professor at BHSU.
If you’re interested in helping the students and yourself, the remaining sessions on campus are March 23 and 25, as well as April 6 and 8.
The clinic is held in Jonas Room 205 from 4-7 p.m.
