Strider Bikes, City of Rapid City unveils Robbinsdale Park Bicycle Playground

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After months of construction, the Robbinsdale Bicycle Playground in Rapid City is finally open.

On Saturday, Strider Bikes held a ribbon cutting. Immediately after, dozens of kids and adults raced in to enjoy the bike park – which is located right next to the BMX track.

Strider Bikes donated $100,000 to build the park back in December of 2020. The company closely also worked with Progressive Bike Ramp Company and the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department during the construction of the park.

Strider Bike officials say the park is meant for anyone who wants to hone their bike riding skills.

“It is very inclusive, just come out play, have fun with it, shoot just ride the gravel if you want to and then progress to the ramps, you know, walk over the ramps, then ride over them,” said Kent Jacobs, the General Operations Manager for Strider Bikes. “You know, it’s that kind of levels that we very much wanted to have here.”

The park includes tunnels, ramps, cones and “Skinnies” — or narrow elevated wooden trials.

Residents of the area were excited about the park.

Rick Dail, who lives near the site of the new bicycle playground his entire life says it’s great to see the park being used for such a good cause.

“It’s finally getting some use and some attention,” Dail said. “This is one of the biggest parks in the town, I’ve talked with past alderman, current alderman, and let them know that, you know, we need to get some money into this park and it’s wonderful a private organization has come up and stepped up and put this money into this park.”

Several members of the Rapid City Common Council Officials were on hand for the ribbon-cutting to thank the organizations on behalf of the city.
