RAPID CITY, S.D. — Despite the pandemic, business has been good for Strider Bikes.
With the increased demand for bicycling, Strider Sports International Inc. CEO Ryan McFarland wanted to find a way to give back to the community.
On Wednesday, the Rapid City company made a $100,000 to Mayor Steve Allender and the City of Rapid City, which will pay to build a first-of-its-kind kids’ bicycle playground.
“The pandemic made for a crazy year but a lot of people found their way back to bicycling and so we ended up with a good year and felt that we could celebrate by giving back to the community,” McFarland said.
Progressive Bike Ramps will begin construction next spring, something that brings good news to the community, that couldn’t have come at a better time for bike lovers and the people. The new bike playground will be located at Robbinsdale Park.
The playground will include:
- A Pump Track with skills development features such as ring tunnels
- Bike ramps
- Cones
- Wave rollers
- Ladders
“The way it will add to our biking infrastructure in Rapid City is a tremendous benefit to the citizens and the quality of life in Rapid City,” Allender said.
The partnership between Strider Bikes and the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department will answer the demand for outdoor activities such as biking, with the goal to have the project up and running by next summer.
