STURGIS, S.D. — The 2021 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally officially came to an end on Sunday, and the South Dakota DOT has counted a total of 525,768 vehicles that came through Sturgis during the whole week. That’s up 13.8% from last year.
The Sturgis Police Department has released a final tally of arrests and violations for this year.
Non-traffic citations saw an incredible decrease from last year, down 50% in total.
- Assaults – 11 (down 35.3% from last year)
- Disorderly Conducts – 8 (down 46.7%)
- Misdemeanor Drug Possessions – 29 (down 74.8%)
- Felony Drug Possessions – 20 (down 46%)
- Indecent Exposures – 0 (down 100%)
- Open Container in Public – 5 (down 54.5%)
- Resisting Arrest / Obstructing an Officer – 8 (down 50%)
- Underage Consumption / Possession of Alcohol – 3 (down 25%)
- Weapons Violations – 4 (down 50%)
Only a few traffic violations were down from last year, while others saw a large increase. Traffic arrests were up by 23.9% and parking citations were up by 27.9%.
- Careless Driving – 3 (remained the same as last year)
- Driving While Intoxicated – 57 (down 11%)
- Illegal Parking – 156 (up 27.9%)
- Open Container in a Vehicle – 21 (up 23.5%)
- Speeding – 6 (up 200%)
- Stop Sign / Light Violations – 30 (up 233.3%)
