SUMMERSET, S.D. — The city of Summerset put together the Annual Cops and Kids Barbecue Competition that hosted families Saturday.
The event that usually features competition between teams was instead a free event for families in the area.
Local businesses also raffled off merchandise, which raises money for the Cops and Kids Program, which gives back to kids in need during the holiday season.
City officials praised the efforts of the businesses who came together for their community.
“We’ve got Strider Bikes here, Bankwest and Kiwanas, Youth and Family Services. It’s important to support local,” said Summerset Public Works Director, Tanner Fenenga. “They’re the ones that sponsor local events for your kids, you know, you order something online and they don’t, so that’s why you need to support the local companies.”
The Black Hawk Fire Department and Summerset Police Department also pitched in to make the event happen.
