RAPID CITY, S.D. — 120 golfers turned out for the third annual “Tee It Up for the Troops” Tournament at the Arrowhead Golf Club on Monday.
The tournament began with a ceremony honoring veterans from World War II through Enduring Freedom, as well as active-duty service members.
It has doubled in size since the first event two years ago when 60 golfers participated. Local tournament director Joey Franze says the money raised will support local and national programs that deliver critical services to veterans.
“Locally, it’s going to go the American Legion Post 22 Scholarship Fund, which is going to help veteran entrepreneurs out, as well as those seeking higher education,” said Franze. “And it means a whole lot to not only the veteran community, but the business community. And then tying those two together is awesome.”
A portion of the money raised today will also help fund the Tee It Up for the Troops National Reunion Program, which sends veterans on a week-long golf vacation in Florida.
