Dugan Irby, the founder of The Dugan Irby Band, started playing when he was about 15 years old.
Irby explains how the band got started. “I went to an open mic night and played and I met my bandmates there. It was a crazy night. My mom’s truck got stolen from the brewery it was at and [it was] parked in somebody’s living room. It was crazy night. So because we didn’t have a ride, we played a lot of music for a long time. But I met him that way. The bass player in the band is like 63. That’s kind of how we got together. Somebody stole my mom’s truck at open mic.”
Rowan Heil is a Guest Singer for the Dugan Irby Band. She does mostly solo, but does play occasionally with the Dugan Irby Band. Heil met Irby at a musical festival.
Irby loves what he does.
He says, “It’s really small and it’s really personal and I don’t know, we love all these people and we think that they love us. You know, they come back every single week and it’s always packed in here. And I don’t know, it’s just it’s a real hometown thing, you know.”
The Dugan Irby Band performs mostly local shows. But they have played in Bozeman, Casper, Cheyenne, Spearfish and surrounding areas.
Irby continues, “We recorded an album last year. We went down to Nashville, Tennessee. My band and I and recorded an album of originals that we wrote as our first album.”
The album is available on streaming platforms and CD’s are available at their shows. Irby’s goal is to play a show with all of their own stuff.
