The Good Witch Cake Shop is an enchanting Sturgis-based bakery run by Shelby Spratt with the help of her son, Tristen. Shelby, or the Good Witch, has been serving fresh baked goods in Sturgis for three years, and she said the concept of the shop emerged from her love of all things spooky.
“The name comes from just me loving witches, everything Halloween— witchy,” said Shelby. “And we just keep it in the family. So, my son is my huge helper.”
Tristen’s responsibilities include running the cash register, serving customers and baking the occasional treat.
“I like baking the nut bars and lemon bars and also brownies,” said Tristen.
In addition to their ornate, custom cakes, The Good Witch Cake Shop offers cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, cupcakes and even daily deli specials. Shelby assures customers that her treats are not only delicious, but also larger-than-life.
“All of my portions are going to be big because I feel like, and this goes, like if you come to my house, you are never going to leave hungry. If you do, that’s your fault. And so I carried over into the shop good quality portions, and you get what you pay for,” explained Shelby.
The Spratts are originally from Buffalo, Wyoming, but they moved to Sturgis after family friends convinced them to open a bakery in the Black Hills area. Shelby attended culinary school and worked many jobs in the industry before opening The Good Witch Cake Shop, but nothing compares to running her own shop with her son.
The Good Witch Cake Shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m..
