The Slash J Saloon is a family owned bar located on the main road in Piedmont, SD.
Sarah Kinnerson, Bar Manager, says that her sister and dad work in the kitchen while her mother and her are bartenders.
Having owned the bar for almost eight years, Kinnerson describes the atmosphere.
“This is actually a really old bar. It was started back in 1979, I believe, by Carol Ann Percy. There’s a lot of history in these walls. It actually used to be an automotive place before it was a restaurant.” Part of the bar is original while everything else has been expanded throughout the years and through the owners.
“It’s a great local restaurant. It really is a good family restaurant. Everybody comes up here. Our dinner specials and lunch fresh rolls bring people from all around. So it’s really nice. The community here is really good to us.” Kinnerson also says that they keep a print off of the history of the bar available for anyone who wants to see it.
Kinnerson talks about the menu at the Slash J Saloon. “As far as the menu goes, I think what we’re probably most famous for is our broasted chicken or our steak tips. And our burgers are hand patty fresh every day, too. So that’s a really good option as well.”
If you have driven by the Slash J Saloon and have never stopped, Kinnerson encourages, “Just give us a try. I think a lot of people think that it’s maybe more of a grungy bar instead of a family-owned bar. We all have fun and we like to laugh. Everybody’s like family here. So I mean, stop in and have some food.”
The Slash J Saloon also has bingo on Monday nights and a two for $22 option on Tuesdays which is great for date night. The Saloon also has a game room with foosball, pinball machines, a pool table and more.
