RAPID CITY, S.D. — It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for. The dirt has arrived for the new Summit Arena’s first rodeo! Rodeo Rapid City begins Friday, January 28, and runs through Saturday, February 5.
The dirt was brought in truckload by truckload and distributed on the arena floor. The arena holds 140 loads of dirt, with about 90 coming in Thursday, and the rest coming in Friday, January 21.
Summit Arena will be home to Rodeo Rapid City, during the same time as the Black Hills Stock Show, drawing rodeo fans, agronomists, ranchers, and farmers from South Dakota and surrounding states.
“It was always a highlight of going into spring, having the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo and Rodeo Rapid City come to town, and it’s just a fun time where you get to see a lot of people that you don’t usually see,” says Rory Hammerbeck, Operations Manager at The Monument. “There’s all sorts of events from the cattle sales to the goat shows, all of the vendors that are in the facility, and then top it all off with a great rodeo.”
Organizers say ticket sales are projected to top those of last year, which was a record breaking year.
