RAPID CITY, S.D. — Two local businesses are receiving grants from the U.S. Small Business Administration. One business is in Rapid City, the other in Box Elder.
Veteran Owned Business of the Year and Woman Owned Business of the Year were granted to two local businesses: VRC Metals and About You Physical Therapy.
VRC Metals, owned by former Air Force pilot, Rob Hrabe was awarded for his contributions to the Box Elder community.
“It’s a tremendous honor actually to be a veteran owned business and be awarded an SBA award,” said Hrabe. “We do focus a lot on hiring veterans and, so, that’s a big component of our business.”
The veteran started the business is 2013, which serves as a hub where they can create, repair and replace metal parts. As a pilot that once served at Ellsworth Air Force Base, he now gives back to the base by helping them replace and repair essential equipment.
“We have really saved the military a lot of money. We make a lot of our revenue off the military but it’s about a 10 to 20 to 1 cost savings for every part they repair versus buy new,” Hrabe added.
Laura Bonsness, the owner of About You Physical Therapy won Woman Owned Business of the Year.
“You feel blessed that you answered the call to what God did to combine your passion with his mission for your life, that’s the best I can describe it,” said Bonsness.
Her team works with people of various abilities like working with athletes on injury prevention and from performance enhancement, and working with injured or ill patients, providing rehabilitation services and Parkinson’s wellness recovery.
“Our mission is to serve our community,” said Bonsness. “It doesn’t matter if you’re age 10 or 110, everybody desires to move well and feel well.”
