The system that dumped several inches of snow across the Black Hills Region is still causing havoc on this Monday. While all advisories have expired, we are dealing with another issue: Fog & Low visibility.
We do have some roads in Southern South Dakota that have the “No Travel Advised” tag from SD511.org. Here’s the information:
US-18 between Martin and Winner
- from SD-73 South-Martin to SD-73 North – mostly snow covered, scattered drifting snow, and numerous areas of snowfall with reduced speed and NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from SD-73 North to 14 miles west of SD-63 – numerous areas of snowfall, mostly snow covered, and scattered drifting snow with NO TRAVEL ADVISED and reduced speed;
- from 14 miles west of SD-63 to SD-63 – slippery, snow covered, blowing snow, visibility less than one half mile, and snow with NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from SD-63 to US 83 South-Mission – blowing snow, visibility less than one half mile, snow, snow covered, and slippery with NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from US 83 South-Mission to 1 mile west of US 183 North – slippery, snow covered, visibility less than one half mile, snow, and blowing snow with NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from 1 mile west of US 183 North to 2 miles west of SD-44-Winner – scattered snow covered and scattered slippery spots;
- from 2 miles west of SD-44-Winner to SD-44-Winner – scattered blowing snow, slippery, and snow covered with reduced speed.
US-83 between Nebraska State Line and Murdo
- from Nebraska State Line to US 18 East-Mission – blowing snow, visibility less than one half mile, snow, slippery, and snow covered with NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from US 18 East-Mission to US 18 West – blowing snow, visibility less than one half mile, snow, snow covered, and slippery with NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from US 18 West to SD-44 West-White River – slippery, numerous areas of slush, snow covered, and snow with reduced speed;
- from SD-44 West-White River to 11 miles north of SD-44 West-White River – snow, snow covered, numerous areas of slush, and slippery with reduced speed;
- from 11 miles north of SD-44 West-White River to West I-90-Murdo – drifting snow, packed snow, slippery, visibility less than one half mile, and blowing snow with reduced speed.
SD-73 between Nebraska State Line and I-90 at Kadoka
- from Nebraska State Line to US 18 East – mostly snow covered, scattered drifting snow, and numerous areas of snowfall with reduced speed and NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from US 18 East to 12 miles north of US 18 East – scattered drifting snow, mostly snow covered, and numerous areas of snowfall with NO TRAVEL ADVISED and reduced speed;
- from 12 miles north of US 18 East to SD-44 – mostly snow covered, scattered drifting snow, and numerous areas of snowfall with reduced speed and NO TRAVEL ADVISED;
- from SD-44 to I-90 East-Kadoka – visibility less than one quarter mile, slush, snow covered, and mainly slippery with reduced speed.
The latest map from SD511.org hasn’t really changed much from last night.
Simply put, the majority of the state is in either Pink (
This is the latest Visibility information as of 9:20 AM.
You notice in this map, the “bullseyes” if you will, no visibility in Spearfish, 1 mile in Sturgis & Deadwood as well as Philip with Lemmon down to Rapid City reporting low visibility as well. If you go across the border in Wyoming, that’s a different story with normal visibility from Sundance to Sheridan.
This is the scene near the Sturgis Area, notice how you can barely see some headlights on the Interstate.
