Walk for Warmth raises funds for utility assistance programs

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Temperatures warmed up just in time for the Salvation Army’s tenth annual Walk for Warmth. On Saturday afternoon, large groups of all ages could be seen walking around Main Street Square – and it was all for a great cause.

“We’re raising funds and awareness of the need that many families face for financial assistance with their utility bills during the coldest months of the year,” said Javier Moreno, Black Hills Area Coordinator for the Salvation Army.

Funds from registration will go directly to utility assistance programs at the Salvation Army for families in need. For those who couldn’t participate, there was also an option to round-up purchases at the Salvation Army in both Rapid City and Spearfish.

Those donations are to be matched by Black Hills Energy up to $10,000.
