West Boulevard residents see another Halloween, large groups of trick-or-treaters

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Ghouls, goblins and other suspect creatures were once again roaming West Boulevard on the night of Halloween.

The street has been a popular spot for families and kids trick-or-treating in the past, with large crowds parading up and down the area. This year was no different.

Residents said they were anticipating anywhere from 800 to 1,000 trick-or-treaters Sunday, much like years past. However, there was a chance for more showing up since many may not have gone out last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rich Ruthford, new to the area, had been warned of the massive amounts of kids. He had to go back into his house at least once to refill his candy bowl.

“It has been non-stop since quarter four. Probably 12 to 24 at a time,” he explained. “So yeah, I’m going through a lot of candy.”

Some had even made multiple trips to the store just to make sure they had enough candy before the big day.
