BUTTE COUNTY, S.D. — A new farm has sprung up in the ag country of Butte County, only it’s producing watts not crops.
The new farm is part of the Orsted’s Willow Creek Wind Project, and it’s 103 megawatt wind farm that is located about 20 miles north of Newell.
The wind farm went online on Wednesday, and this is the second project in the Southwest Power Pool for Orsted, which a company based in Denmark.
The company says the Willow Creek project will support local services through the property tax revenue generated, and the landowners who are leasing their property for the turbines will receive long-term rental income.
