BOX ELDER, S.D. — 101-year-old WWII vet Morry Crow has made quite a name for himself in the past months, and he is once again being recognized and honored for his outstanding service.
Following the 59th inauguration ceremony, Rep. Dusty Johnson was presented with one of the American flags flown on the National Mall.
Not believing he was worthy of the honor, Johnson searched for a deserving recipient – and found that in Morry Crow.
“Regardless of who you vote for for president, I think we all acknowledge that the peaceful transition of power is a beautiful American gift. And that gift was paid for by the service of our airman, our soldiers, our marines, our sailors. To be able to look a legitimate hero, like staff sergeant in the eye, thank him for his service, and provide him this American heirloom…it is amongst the most valuable things I will do for a long time,” Rep. Johnson said.
The museum educates the public about the history of Air Force and South Dakota aviation. But, is of course thrilled to honor a living part of history.
“It’s a great opportunity to honor our vets in every conceivable way. And so, an actual event like this, where the vet can get some personal recognition and at the same time tell this great story of his WWII service and how he represents thousands, including thousands that didn’t come back,” said Robert Liebman, Board of Directors South Dakota Air and Space Foundation.
Along with the flag, Johnson presented Morry with his office challenge coin, and paraphernalia from the inauguration.
